Los Angeles, CA – 33-year-old Samuel Brown, a London police official, was the pedestrian who died after being struck by a suspected DUI driver near an intersection in Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.
The accident was reported around 10:56 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2026, on Hollywood Boulevard at Cherokee Avenue.
Brown was crossing the street inside a crosswalk when he was hit by a car driven by 39-year-old Esmeralda Diaz.
Emergency personnel responded and attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His place of residence was not mentioned.
Brown was a member of the Metropolitan Police Service in London, working in the Operational Support Services. He also served as a constable.
Authorities arrested Diaz after suspecting she was under the influence at the time of the accident. She was booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood for DUI and other offenses. Her bail was set at just over $2 million.

Hollywood, CA – A 32-year-old man was killed Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Hollywood Boulevard in the heart of Hollywood.
The fatal pedestrian crash happened at approximately 10:56 p.m. on October 4 at Hollywood Boulevard and Cherokee Avenue.
The man was in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a vehicle. The impact left him critically injured, and paramedics performed CPR at the scene in an effort to save his life. He was later pronounced dead.
The driver, a woman, remained at the scene and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Her identity was not immediately released.
The collision occurred near the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Police said pedestrians and visitors were in the area at the time.
