Placer County, CA – Two people were injured in a crash that occurred on Interstate 80 in Placer County on Monday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision happened in the westbound lanes of the interstate near Nyack Road at around 2 p.m. on July 20.
Preliminary reports indicate that multiple vehicles, including five cars and several big rigs, were involved in the accident. The exact circumstances under which the accident occurred were not immediatey established.
Diesel was spilled onto the roadway following the crash and one of the big rigs is believed to have gone over the embankment after the accident.
CHP and CAL FIRE officials responded to the site of the collision and rendered aid to those involved.
After evaluation, two people were transported to hospital with moderate to major injuries.
The westbound lanes of I-80 were temporarily shut down as authorities worked to clear the scene. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the California Higwhay Patrol.
