San Francisco, CA – Nine people were injured in a traffic collision involving a truck being pursued by police Sunday evening, July 19, at an intersection in San Francisco.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, the incident occurred just after 8 p.m. at South Van Ness Avenue and 14th Street.
According to SFPD, before the collision occurred, police officers observed a truck driving erratically near Guerrero and 19th Streets and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver defied the officers’ command and continued driving with disregard for the safety of the public.
The officers were chasing the truck when it entered the intersection of South Van Ness Avenue and 14th Street and collided with a car. The force of the impact sent the car into a hydrant and a car dealership.
The officers detained the occupants of the truck after the collision.
The San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene and evaluated four people in the car and the five occupants of the truck.
Eight people were injured, including two who were hospitalized with critical injuries. The other six suffered minor to moderate injuries.
One person did not need hospitalization. The critically hurt patients were occupants of the truck.
The intersection was closed for an unknown period of time.
