The CHP reported that a 96-year-old Carmel man was driving a Lexus sedan southbound on Highway 1 when he drifted across the double yellow lines and crashed with an oncoming Honda SUV

Carmel, CA – A crash involving three vehicles left two people hospitalized on Thursday near Carmel.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Highway 1, south of Carpenter Street on Thursday, April 9.
The CHP reported that a 96-year-old Carmel man was driving a Lexus sedan southbound on Highway 1 when he drifted across the double yellow lines and crashed with an oncoming Honda SUV.
The impact pushed the Lexus back into the southbound lanes and it struck a southbound Subaru sedan operated by a 24-year-old woman from Oakland.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after and attended to the involved parties.
The drivers of the Honda and the Lexus were both transported to a local hospital with injuries believed to be major. No other injuries were reported.
According to CHP, alcohol and drugs were not suspected to have played any role in the incident.
No further details were immediately available. The CHP is working to ascertain the circumstances of the accident.
