Fontana manages a complex safety profile driven by its role as a massive Inland Empire logistics hub. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) 2023–2024 rankings, Fontana recorded 911 victims killed or injured, placing it 38th out of 62 similar-sized cities — a mid-range performance. However, the city faces acute risks on its high-speed arterials; it ranked 19th worst for speed-related collisions and 18th worst for pedestrian victims under age 15. These figures reflect the dangers of a heavy-truck environment where I-10 and SR-210 intersect with dense local traffic.
Data from the 2025–2026 Fontana Transportation Safety Audit indicates that speeding and nighttime driving (9:00 PM to 3:00 AM) are the primary factors in 31% and 11% of all injury crashes, respectively.
