According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) 2023 rankings, Redwood City recorded 236 victims killed or injured, ranking it 56th out of 103 similar-sized cities — a mid-range safety profile. However, specific vulnerabilities remain; Redwood City ranked 5th worst for bicyclist injuries and 6th worst for pedestrian victims aged 65 and older. These figures highlight a critical need for infrastructure improvements for non-motorized and senior road users, particularly along high-volume corridors like El Camino Real.
Data from the city’s 2025 Transportation Monitoring Report indicates that speeding and nighttime driving (9:00 PM to 3:00 AM) are the leading primary crash factors.
