According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles were involved in the crash on State Route 94 near Little Tecate Road, around 3 p.m., February 23.
A driver was trapped inside their vehicle after colliding head-on with another car.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and rescued the victim. An air ambulance was requested to airlift the driver to the hospital, but the patient later died from their injuries.
The other driver was treated for minor injuries.
Caltrans San Diego on their social media issued an alert of SR-94 being blocked in both directions at Little Tecate Road following the collision.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.
