Fremont, CA – 19-year-old Ahmad Muslim Faiez of San Jose died, and his brother Ahmed Mozamel was severely injured when their vehicle collided with a semi-truck last month at an intersection in Fremont.
The wreck occurred just before 2 a.m., January 27, at Auto Mall Parkway and Cushing Parkway.
According to the Fremont Police Department, Faiez and Mozamel were traveling in a BMW M4 coupe northbound on Cushing Parkway, and a semi-truck was traveling westbound on Auto Mall Parkway. Both vehicles entered the intersection, and the front of the BMW crashed into the middle of the trailer, getting stuck underneath it.
Police said one of the vehicles is believed to have run a red light.
Mozamel was driving the BMW and was hospitalized with severe injuries, including deep lacerations to his head and arm that required numerous stitches and staples.
Faiez, a passenger in the BMW, suffered severe traumatic brain injuries and went into a coma. According to the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau, he later died at the hospital.
On a GoFundMe page, Mohammad Qadir, the father of the two brothers, said the victims were returning home from a late-night work shift in Fremont when the accident happened.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and remained at the scene after the collision.

Between 2019 and 2023, Fremont’s reported serious car collisions shifted notably. In 2019, Fremont had 793 victims killed or injured in fatal and injury collisions, based on OTS crash rankings. By 2021, that count dropped to 575 victims, and in 2022 it increased to 677 victims, indicating a mid-term rise as traffic volumes recovered post-pandemic. In 2023, the total serious collision count in the city remained at 677, showing relative stability year-over-year. Alcohol-involved crash victims increased from 56 in 2021 to 69 in 2022, while motorcycle and pedestrian injury counts also rose moderately. Speed-related and hit-and-run collision victims showed similar fluctuations, and DUI arrests increased sharply in 2022, reflecting changes in enforcement and reporting. Over the longer period from 2018 to 2023, Fremont’s serious collision totals trended downward from earlier highs near 800+ victims, reflecting some improvement but also year-to-year variability in traffic safety outcomes. These changes align with local Vision Zero safety efforts and broader trends in travel patterns.
