Los Angeles, CA – A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle on the 110 Freeway in Los Angeles on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident was reported at around 8:33 p.m. January 31, on the northbound freeway north of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

According to the authorities, the pedestrian tried to run from the right shoulder of northbound 110 Freeway onto the center divider and was hit by a 2015 Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle was driven by a 30-year-old woman from Moreno Valley.

The CHP and emergency personnel responded to the scene shortly after and the pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

Limited details on the incident were immediately available.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating to establish the cause of the accident.

Pedestrians, in particular, account for a disproportionately high number of traffic deaths in the region, a trend that has persisted in recent years. Alcohol-involved collisions also contributed significantly to the 2022 statistics, with 1,676 victims killed and injured.
