Orangevale, CA – Two boys riding on a dirt bike were injured when they collided with a vehicle near an elementary school in Orangevale on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported in the area of Trajan Drive and Central Avenue near Trajan Elementary School on Tuesday, January 27.
When CHP officers arrived at the scene, they located two juveniles with major injuries. A preliminary investigation reveals that the two were riding on a single Honda 150R dirt bike from Central Avenue onto southbound Trajan Drive when they collided with a Toyota 4Runner.
The Toyota was reportedly making a turn from northbound Trajan Drive into the school parking lot when the collision happened.
Both riders were ejected from the motorcycle by the impact. Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the dirtbike, a 16-year-old boy, may have been traveling recklessly just prior go the accident but investigators are still working to ascertain the cause of the crash.
The two boys were transported to a hospital with facial injuries and possible head trauma.
Authorities reported that the bike riders were not wearing their helmets and the driver of the motorcycle was suspected of DUI.
According to reports from the San Juan Unified School District, the crash did not involve students or staff from Trajan Elementary School.
The CHP East Sacramento division is still investigating to establish the circumstances of the crash.
