Authorities said an 18-wheeler with a trailer was involved in the collision with a sedan in the northbound lanes of Highway 101

Redwood City, CA – Two people were injured in a rollover collision involving two big rigs on US Highway 101 in Redwood City on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident was reported at around 10:50 a.m. January 18, near Marsh Road.
Authorities said an 18-wheeler with a trailer was involved in the collision with a sedan in the northbound lanes of Highway 101. The impact caused the big rig to roll onto its side on the righthand shoulder of the highway.
The California Highway Patrol and firefighters responded to the scene and three lanes were shut down for the investigations and cleanup of the scene.
Medics transported both drivers to Stanford hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Authorities did not release identification details on both motorists.
One lane was reopened within one hour while the other two remained closed as of midday.
Further information on the incident was not available. The officers with the California Highway Patrol are piecing together evidence to establish the circumstances that caused the crash.
California continues to experience a high number of vehicle collisions each year. According to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System (SWITRS), there were over 2,000 fatal crashes and nearly 300,000 total collisions reported statewide in 2024. Rear-end and multi-vehicle collisions on major freeways like SR-22 contribute significantly to injuries and hospitalizations.
Drivers are reminded to maintain safe following distances, reduce speeds during low-light conditions, and avoid distractions while driving. Early-morning commuters should stay alert on busy freeways and always wear seatbelts to reduce the risk of serious injuries in multi-vehicle collisions.
