Newhall, CA – One person was killed when a vehicle rolled over and trapped them after a crash on State Route 14 in the Newhall area on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on northbound SR 14 at the Newhall Avenue off-ramp shortly before 12:54 p.m. January 14.
The CHP reported that a vehicle was traveling northbound exiting the freeway when it experienced a suspected tire blowout. The vehicle drifted off the roadway, went up an embankment, and rolled over.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and was pinned beneath the vehicle.
Troopers with the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to the scene shortly after. The firefighters helped extricate the the trapped driver.
Paramedics pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The victim’s name and age were not immediately disclosed but authorities said he was a male.
The accident led to the closure of the Newhall Avenue off-ramp as authorities gathered more information and the scene was cleared.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating to establish the circumstances of the crash.
