One Person Injured in Crash on 15 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga

Rancho Cucamonga, CA. – One person was sent to the hospital after a rollover collision that happened Thursday afternoon in Rancho Cucamonga, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident took place around 4:17 p.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway near the Baseline Avenue exit.

A white Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a trailer and a black Honda Civic sedan were involved in the accident.

The pickup truck overturned onto its roof, blocking the two right lanes.

At least one ambulance responded to the scene and transported one person to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with minor injuries.

Traffic lanes were closed in the area while crews cleared the scene. Traffic was backed up for more than 3 miles following the closure.

Rancho Cucamonga is generally considered a relatively safe city for driving when compared to other California cities of similar population size, often ranking favorably in Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) reports. In 2022, there were 539 victims killed and injured in total fatal and injury collisions within the city. This is an increase from the 433 people injured or killed in vehicle accidents in 2021.  Key collision factors and victim demographics for 2022 included: Alcohol-involved collisions: 89 victims were killed or injured in alcohol-involved incidents. Pedestrians and bicyclists: 33 pedestrians and 35 bicyclists were victims killed or injured, accounting for a notable percentage of total victims. Motorcyclists: 24 motorcyclists were among those injured or killed. Speed-related collisions: Past data indicates that speed is a factor in a significant number of crashes.  While the total number of accidents is comparatively low for a city of its size, specific categories like pedestrian/bicyclist incidents and alcohol-involved crashes have been identified as areas requiring continued attention. The city’s Police Department works with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and has a full traffic division, including a Major Accident Investigation Team, to address these issues.
