Sacramento, CA. – An 18-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning after his truck veered off the roadway and caught fire on Highway 50 in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on eastbound Highway 50, just west of Mayhew Road.

Investigators said the man was driving a Toyota pickup when he drifted onto the right shoulder and collided with a roadside changeable message sign.

The impact caused the truck to burst into flames, leaving the driver trapped inside.

The man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said the victim was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved.

The cause of the collision remained unclear.

Authorities did not immediately determine if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors.

CHP is investigating.
