Santa Rosa, CA. – Major injuries were reported in a collision involving a Sonoma County Sheriff Department’s patrol vehicle Sunday afternoon in Santa Rosa, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident occurred around 5:52 p.m. in the 4055 block of Santa Rosa Avenue at Smith Place.

According to CHP, a patrol vehicle crashed into a Ford Fusion under unclear circumstances.

At least one person sustained major injuries in the accident. It was unclear if the patient was the deputy or an occupant in the civilian vehicle.

A street sweeper was dispatched to the scene to clean debris from the roadway.

The Ford was towed away with major front-end damage.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
