The incident occurred around 12:18 a.m. on the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway and the eastbound Glen Anderson (105) Freeway transition road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Mercado crashed under unclear circumstances, sustaining severe injuries.

First responders pronounced the rider dead at the scene.

CHP closed all roads of the transition road from the northbound 110 Freeway to the eastbound 105 Freeway.
