Sacramento County, CA. – A man died, and two women were injured when their vehicles collided Monday evening at an intersection in the Sloughhouse area of Sacramento County.
The accident occurred just after 6:45 p.m. on Jackson Road at Ione Road, according to the California Highway Patrol East Sacramento Division.
Authorities said a woman driving a Toyota Rav-4 was stopped at a stop sign in the northbound lane of Ione Road, waiting to make a left turn onto Jackson Road.
At the same time, a man was driving a Buick Encore west on Jackson Road, approaching Ione Road. A woman was also driving a Ford F-150 east on Jackson Road, approaching the same intersection.
Investigators said the driver of the Toyota proceeded to turn left from the stop sign directly into the path of the Buick.
The vehicles collided, and the impact of the crash sent the Buick toward the eastbound lane of Jackson Road, where it collided head-on with the Ford truck.
The man driving the Buick died at the scene.
The woman driving the Ford was hospitalized with major injuries.
The woman behind the wheel of the Toyota was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Jackson Road was closed in both directions for an extended period.
