Carlsbad, California (March 23, 2022) – 19-year-old Ezekiel Beas, of Vista, was killed in a traffic collision that left one other person seriously injured in Carlsbad early Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at around 2:40 a.m. on Interstate 5 in the La Costa neighborhood.

A gray Honda Civic was traveling northbound on the freeway when the driver veered left for unknown reasons and collided with a gray Toyota Prius.

The impact of the collision caused the Civic to veer down an embankment.

Ezekiel was ejected from the vehicle and was hit by another car. He died at the scene, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.

The driver of the Civic, 20-year-old Isidrone Martinez of Oceanside, was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Three other passengers of the Honda Civic were hospitalized with major injuries.

The driver of the Prius and their passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash.

An investigation into the collision is underway.
