Riverside, California (November 24, 2022) – 3-year-old Zaylee Embery of Riverside died in a DUI crash that also injured another 3-year-old kid early Wednesday morning in Riverside, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The deadly accident occurred at about 12:31 a.m. on southbound Interstate 215, just north of Blaine Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision involved a sedan occupied by the driver, Embery, and another 3-year-old child and a pickup truck occupied by the sole driver.

CHP said the pickup truck was traveling directly ahead of the sedan when it started experiencing mechanical problems. As the driver pulled over to the shoulder, the sedan slammed into it and rolled.

Embery sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:45 a.m.

The other kid sustained moderate injuries, and the driver suffered minor injuries. Both patients were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The pickup driver was not hurt.

CHP said alcohol was a contributing factor but did not give more details.

CHP Riverside Area is investigating the collision.
