Teen Dies after Drunk Driver Crashes into Vehicle with Family of Seven in Phoenix

North Phoenix, AZ (May 15, 2023) – Phoenix police are investigating a deadly Sunday morning crash involving a car with seven family members and a suspected impaired driver.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 8 a.m. Sunday, May 14, 2023, at 30th Street and Greenway Road.

Phoenix police say a teenage boy died in the collision. Four other children and two adults were hospitalized following the incident.

According to Phoenix Fire Department, two boys were in critical condition but have since been stabilized. The other two children and the adults were in stable condition and were expected to survive.

Reportedly, a suspected drunk driver was driving a pickup truck south on 30th Street when he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection with Greenway Road. The driver then turned right into the eastbound lanes going the wrong way, and it crashed into a car occupied by seven family members.

The truck driver remained at the scene and was booked into jail under DUI and manslaughter charges.

The name of the deceased boy was not immediately released.

The incident remains under investigation.
