Oxnard, California (February 14, 2023) – Samuel Castro, 31, of Lancaster, was killed in an early Sunday morning collision that happened in Oxnard, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place at Portofino Place and Fifth Street on February 12.
Castro was driving a 2020 Honda Civic westbound on Fifth Street by the sidewalk when he clipped a westbound 2022 Hyundai Sonata.
The impact caused the Civic to spin and it came to a rest on the eastbound lanes.
Castro died at the scene while his passenger, Annette Gomez, 44, of Adelanto, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The other driver was unhurt and cooperated with the investigators.
The authorities are conducting an investigation into the collision.

Oxnard, California (February 12, 2023) – Two people were killed in a collision between two vehicles in Oxnard early Sunday morning, according to the Oxnard Police Department.
The collision happened just after midnight on Fifth Street and Portofino Place.
Police said a 2020 Honda Civic was traveling westbound on Fifth Street when it was clipped by a 2022 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling in the same direction.
The impact caused the Civic to spin and it rolled over into the eastbound lanes of Fifth Street.
A man in the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene while a female occupant died at a hospital.
There was no update on the identities of the deceased parties.
The driver of the Sonata was unhurt and stayed at the scene.
Authorities believe speed and reckless driving played a role in the accident.
