Gilberto Payan ID’d as Man Killed in Pomona Accident on Holt Avenue
Pomona, California (October 15, 2022) – The man who died after an accident where a vehicle slammed into a taco stand in Pomona Friday evening has been identified as Gilberto Cazares Payan, 52, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
The collision took place at around 7:30 p.m. October 14, in the 1600 block of Holt Avenue in front of the Cardenas Market.
According to authorities, a 26-year-old woman was driving a black sedan east on Holt Avenue when she swerved into the westbound lanes, jumped the curb, and crashed into the taco stand, which was crowded at the time.
The driver reportedly fled from the scene but surrendered to the authorities shortly after.
Payan, who was getting dinner at the stand, died at the scene.
12 other parties were injured in the collision and some of them had major injuries.
Further details were not immediately available.
The accident is under investigation.
