Sutter County, California (May 26, 2023) – A mother and several juveniles were hospitalized after a head-on collision that happened Thursday night in Nicolaus, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck was reported at around 8:50 p.m. on the southbound State Route 99, just north of Striplin Road.

CHP said a Mercedes sedan was traveling northbound, and a white SUV was heading southbound when, for an unknown reason, the sedan crossed over into the SUV’s lane and caused a head-on crash.

The Mercedes acquired major front-end damage and detached front wheels while the SUV overturned onto its side.

Emergency personnel responded and evaluated the occupants of the vehicles.

A mother and an unspecified number of juveniles were taken to Rideout Memorial Hospital with the complaint of pain.

It was unclear which car the victims occupied.

The highway was closed in both directions at 9:20 p.m. as authorities investigated, and the scene was cleared.

All lanes were back open as of 10:26 p.m.
