Nick Lewis ID’d as Suspect Arrested after Lake Elsinore Crash on Interstate 15 near Franklin Street

Lake Elsinore, California (January 13, 2021) – Nick Clinton Lewis, 55, Temecula, has been identified as the suspected who was arrested after a Friday night two-vehicle accident that killed one person in Lake Elsinore, authorities said.
The deadly accident happened at around midnight on January 8, on Interstate 15, just north of Franklin Street.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2020 Nissan Versa, driven by Franciso DeLuna, 49, of Perris, was slowed due to a traffic break ahead when a 2015 GMC Sierra, operated by Lewis, struck it from behind.
As a result of the collision, DeLuna’s Versa was sent crashing into the center divider, just north of Franklin Street, the officials said.

Sadly, DeLuna was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lewis, who was not injured in the crash, attempted to flee by driving on the freeway’s right shoulder to escape the slowed traffic but was spotted by the CHP near Railroad Canyon Road.
Lewis was arrested and has been charged with murder, driving under the influence, and hit and run. He is due to be arraigned Thursday at the Murrieta Southwest Justice Center.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
