Dorothyann Guthrie ID’d as 1 of 2 Killed in Gaviota Crash on Highway 1 near Highway 101
Gaviota, California (October 28, 2022) – Dorothyann Guthrie, 20, of Lompoc, has been identified as one of the two people who were killed in a fiery wrong-way crash on Friday morning in Gaviota, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident occurred at about 4:05 a.m. on Highway 1, west of Highway 101.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford C-Max, driven by Kyle Nelson, 22, of Goleta, was traveling at around 80 mph on the highway when it crossed over double yellow lines to pass slower traffic.
Unfortunately, Nelson’s Ford C-Max collided with a vehicle operated by Jenna Causby, 19, of Lompoc. Causby reportedly tried swerving to avoid a collision with the oncoming Ford, but Nelson also swerved, and the vehicles collided and became engulfed in flames.
Sadly, Causby and Guthrie were killed in the accident. Guthrie was a passenger in Causby’s vehicle.
Nelson, who was arrested, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation.
