3 People Killed in Mountain Pass Car Accident on Interstate 15 Identified

Mountain Pass, California (May 25, 2023) – The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner released the names of the three people who died Friday last week in a traffic collision in Mountain Pass.

The victims were 40-year-old Michael Mandelsberg of Kent, Washington, 57-year-old James Manuel of Palmdale, and 80-year-old Amelia Lloyd of Palmdale.

All three were pronounced dead at the crash scene.

They were involved in a crash at around 4:18 p.m. on May 19 on Interstate 15 near Yates Well Road, south of the Nevada state line.

A gray sedan and a white sedan collided for an unknown reason.

The gray sedan overturned onto its side on the right-hand shoulder, and the white sedan was blocking the middle traffic lanes.

The California Highway Patrol – Barstow Office is investigating to determine the cause of the collision.

Lake Elsinore, California (May 25, 2023) – One person was hospitalized after a multi-vehicle pileup that happened Wednesday afternoon on a freeway in Lake Elsinore, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The accident transpired at around 12:20 p.m. on the southbound 15 Freeway, just north of Railroad Canyon Road.

CHP officers responded to the scene to find a Ford F-250 pickup truck, a Nissan Pathfinder SUV, a Nissan Sentra, a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, and a Toyota sedan involved in the collision in the fast lane.

An off-duty officer had directed the motorists to move the vehicles to the center median for safety before the CHP officers arrived.

Units from the Riverside County Fire Department responded and evaluated the motorists for injuries. Only one person was found to have minor injuries. The patient was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment.

CHP shut down the southbound fast lane as they investigated.

The cause of the crash will be determined when the investigation is completed.
