Truck Carrying Cement Overturns on I-805, Spills Load on Car Below, Killing One

San Diego, California (May 27, 2023) – One person died when a pickup truck carrying bags of cement and other materials overturned on Interstate 805, spilling some of the load onto a car below the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident happened just before 1 p.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of the freeway near eastbound State Route 52.

CHP said the driver of a pickup truck lost control while heading south on I-805 and overturned.

Several bags of concrete went over the freeway railing and crashed through the windscreen of a car on eastbound State Route 52.

A woman in her 70s riding as a passenger in the car hit by the materials died at the crash scene.

The southbound I-805 connector to eastbound SR-52 was shut down following the accident.
