Maria Wilfong Killed, Patrick Dempsey Injured in Car Crash on Malton Switch Road in Corning
Corning, California (December 12, 2022) – A woman who died in a traffic collision in Corning on Friday afternoon has been identified as Maria Wilfong, 59.
The fatal crash happened on Malton Switch Road near Watkins Road at around 4:10 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Patrick Dempsey, 60, of Chico, was driving a Ford Transit van westbound when he crashed into a northbound Chevrolet Camaro at the intersection.
Maria, a resident of Corning, was driving the Camaro and was pronounced dead at the accident scene.

Dempsey was seriously injured in the accident and was flown to Enloe Medical Center for treatment.
Additional information about the accident was not provided.
The CHP Red Bluff Area office is investigating the cause of the accident.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
