Update: 2 Dead in Castroville Crash on Highway 1
2 People Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident on Highway 1 near Molera Road
Castroville, California (May 24, 2023) – The California Highway Patrol Monterey area said two occupants of a car that collided head-on with a truck on Highway 1 in Castroville died of their injuries.
The head-on wreck prompted another crash involving at least two other vehicles.
Authorities were notified about the incident at around 12:37 p.m. on Tuesday in the southbound lanes near Molera Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, a blue Mazda SUV was traveling southbound when a northbound black GMC truck swerved into the southbound lane and collided head-on into the SUV.
The crash caused at least two other vehicles behind the SUV to collide.
Two people inside the SUV died in the collision.
The report did not mention how many people in total were involved and their condition.
Southbound Highway 1 near the scene remained closed until investigators completed their assignment.

Monterey County, California (May 23, 2023) – At least one person died in a head-on collision that happened in Castroville on Tuesday afternoon.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 12:37 p.m. on Highway 1 near Molera Road.
Two vehicles are reported to have collided head-on in unclear circumstances. Two other vehicles were recovered at the accident scene.
Authorities say one person was killed in the accident.
The name of the deceased person was not immediately disclosed.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
