Shawn Powers Hurt in Fatal Wallace Motorcycle Crash on Highway 12

Wallace, California (May 7, 2023) – Shawn Powers, 38, of Valley Springs, was critically hurt in a fatal motorcycle collision in Wallace last month, according to the CHP.

The wreck happened just before 11:30 a.m. April 22, on Highway 12, near Southworth Road.

A 2021 Harley Davidson was traveling behind an SUV when the SUV slowed down to make a left turn.

The motorcycle, traveling at a high rate of speed, tried to pass the SUV on the left side and ended up crashing into it.

The motorcycle rider was ejected by the impact of the collision.

The rider, later identified as Douglas Smith Jr., 50, of Valley Springs, died in the crash.

Powers, who was driving the SUV, was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital with major injuries.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
