Scooter Rider Injured in San Diego Accident on Delbarton Street and Zion Avenue

San Diego, California (May 2, 2023) – A scooter rider was struck and injured by a vehicle in the Allied Gardens neighborhood early Tuesday morning, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The incident happened on Delbarton Street and Zion Avenue shortly after 1 a.m.

Police said a 36-year-old man was riding an electric scooter when he failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and was hit by a 2012 Toyota Camry.

The rider was rushed to a hospital with major injuries, including pneumothorax, cerebral hemorrhage, and other internal injuries.

The operator of the Toyota, a 53-year-old man, was not injured.

Police said alcohol was not suspected to be a factor in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
