Around 12:38 a.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol San Jose Area Office was notified about a Toyota Camry heading the wrong way on Highway 17 south of Santa Cruz Avenue.

Los Gatos, CA. – A 43-year-old San Jose woman died, and three others were hospitalized after a DUI suspect drove his car the wrong way on Highway 17 in Los Gatos, causing a collision.
Around 12:38 a.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol San Jose Area Office was notified about a Toyota Camry heading the wrong way on Highway 17 south of Santa Cruz Avenue.
The car drove another vehicle off the roadway as it attempted to avoid a collision.
About two minutes later, CHP officers were notified that the Toyota had been involved in a head-on collision with a Honda Del Sol and subsequently collided with a Honda Civic.
Emergency personnel responded to the scene and pronounced a 43-year-old San Jose woman, who was a passenger in the wrong-way vehicle, dead at the scene.
The driver of the Del Sol was hospitalized with major injuries.
The driver of the Civic was also hospitalized with moderate injuries.
The wrong-way driver, identified as a 44-year-old San Jose man, sustained major injuries. Authorities believe he was under the influence at the time of the crash. It was unclear where he entered Highway 17 the wrong way.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
