Raymond Abernathy III Identified as Motorcyclist Killed in Crash at Orcutt Intersection

Orcutt, CA. – 39-year-old Raymond Abernathy III died in a motorcycle collision that happened about ten days ago at an intersection in Orcutt, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office Coroner's Bureau reported.

The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. August 16 at Orcutt Road and Siler Lane.

Investigators said the collision involved Abernathy's black Suzuki motorcycle, a white Chevrolet truck, and a Mercedes-Benz.

Abernathy was riding the motorcycle northbound on Orcutt Road at an unknown speed near Siler Lane.

At the same time, the Chevrolet truck was heading southbound on Orcutt Road at about 40 mph, approaching the intersection with Siler Lane.

The Mercedes-Benz was traveling behind the truck.

Investigators said the driver of the truck slowed to turn left and then turned in front of the motorcycle.

Abernathy crashed into the right rear of the Chevrolet and got ejected. The motorcyclist was thrown into the hood of the Mercedes-Benz, prompting the driver to stop, sending the rider onto the roadway.

Abernathy suffered serious injuries in the accident. He was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Orcutt, CA. – A motorcyclist died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Saturday morning at an intersection in Orcutt .

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 10:15 a.m., August 16, at Orcutt Road and Siler Lane.

Investigators said a man was riding a black Suzuki motorcycle northbound on Orcutt Road at an unknown speed near Siler Lane.

At the same time, a white Chevrolet truck was traveling southbound on Orcutt Road at about 40 mph, approaching the intersection with Siler Lane.

The driver of the truck slowed down to turn left, but ended up turning in front of the Suzuki motorcycle.

The motorcyclist hit the right rear of the Chevrolet. The rider was ejected, landing onto the hood of a Mercedes-Benz traveling behind the Chevrolet.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz stopped the car, sending the rider onto the roadway.

The motorcyclist was transported by American Medical Response ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The man was later pronounced dead at the facility.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
