Merced County, California (October 19, 2022) – Pedro Saldana, 36, of Cantua Creek, was killed in a big rig crash that happened in Merced County Saturday night, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at about 11:44 p.m. October 15, in the area of Henry Miller Avenue and Cherokee Road.

According to the CHP, a 32-year-old man was driving a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia eastbound on Henry Miller Avenue when he drifted to the south shoulder for unspecified reasons. The big rig then swerved into the westbound side and was rear-ended by a 2020 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Saldana.

Saldana was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The other motorist was not injured. 

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
