Pedestrian Killed in Joshua Tree Accident on State Route 62

Joshua Tree, California (April 18, 2023) – A 30-year-old male pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a car in Joshua Tree.

According to the CHP press release, the deadly collision occurred on State Route 62, west of Hillview Road, at around 5:00 a.m. April 16.

The pedestrian was walking in the eastbound right lane on the highway when he was struck by a car traveling in the same in unclear circumstances.

He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

The car’s driver, Kevin Amstutz, 69, of Yucca Valley, was unhurt, remained at the site, and cooperated with the investigators.

Alcohol and drugs did not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
