Patrick McDuffee Arrested after Deadly DUI Avila Beach Accident at San Luis Bay Drive and Apple Orchard Lane
Avila Beach, California (August 9, 2021) – 31-year-old Nipomo man Patrick McDuffee was arrested on DUI charges following a deadly crash that occurred in Avila Beach Friday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place just before 3:00 p.m. near San Luis Bay Drive and Apple Orchard Lane.
According to CHP, a 72-year-old man from Atascadero and his wife were in a Mercedes van traveling north on San Luis Bay Drive when a Ford F-250 truck driven by McDuffee drifted into their path at a curve and collided head-on with the van.
Patrick McDuffee Arrested for DUI after Deadly Avila Beach Car Accident
The man driving the van died at the scene of the collision. The passenger in the van had major injuries and was rushed to Sierra Vista Medical Hospital for treatment.
McDuffee was determined to have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident and was arrested on murder charges. He was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail.
The incident is under investigation.
