At Least 1 Severely Injured in Oakland Car Accident on Interstate 580 near High Street

Oakland, California (May 5, 2023) – At least one person sustained serious injuries after a three-vehicle collision Thursday evening on Interstate 580 in Oakland.

According to a police report, the wreck was reported at around 3:57 p.m. on eastbound 580, just west of the High Street off-ramp.

A BMW, a van, and another vehicle were involved in the crash. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not immediately established.

The impact of the collision left the BMW with major rear-end damage and a van with significant front-end damage.

Authorities arrived at the crash site and found one person breathing and unresponsive.

At least one party sustained major injuries in the accident.

A SigAlert was issued, closing 3-4 lanes due to the collision. All lanes were reopened just before 5:00 p.m.

A tow truck was requested for the damaged vehicles.

No other information about the crash was available.

The crash is under investigation.
