San Diego, CA. – A Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) bus driver died after experiencing a medical emergency while behind the wheel and crashing his bus Tuesday morning in San Diego, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. on State Route 163 north of University Avenue.
According to authorities, a 60-year-old man was driving an MTS bus northbound on SR-163 when he reportedly experienced a medical emergency and veered to the right, hitting a guardrail.
The San Diego Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and found the driver unconscious.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
One other person was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The University Avenue on-ramp to northbound SR-163 was closed for an unknown period following the accident.
