Moses Sanchez Rodriguez Hurt in Murrieta Car Crash on Interstate 215

Murrieta, California (May 6, 2023) – Moses Sanchez-Rodriguez, 27, of Las Vegas, was seriously hurt in a suspected DUI collision in Murrieta Monday morning, according to authorities.

The incident happened on Interstate 215 near Linnel Lane at around 3:15 a.m. May 1.

According to California Highway Patrol, Isaiah F. Orona, 26, of Menifee, was behind the wheel of a 2020 Dodge Charger heading north on I-215 when, for unknown reasons, he made an unsafe turn.

The Dodge slammed into the concrete center divider, then bounced back into the roadway and was hit by a 2004 Hyundai driven by a 55-year-old Menifee man.

The impact sent the Dodge into the southbound side and it was involved in another collision with a 2017 Kia Sportage.

Two occupants of the Kia, Moses Sanchez-Rodriguez and his son Ian Sanchez, 6, of Las Vegas, were hospitalized with major injuries. 

Ian was critically hurt and was declared brain dead at Rady Children’s Hospital. 

Other occupants of the Kia, Joceline Rodriguez, Ian’s mother, and Ian’s 4-year-old brother were treated for minor injuries.

Orona, who was hospitalized with serious injuries, was also arrested on suspicion of DUI.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
