Man Killed, 4 Others Hospitalized After Phoenix Crash on 75th Avenue and Thomas Road
Phoenix, Arizona (February 5, 2023) – 25-year-old Miguel Ornelas Campos died when another driver ran a red light at an intersection in west Phoenix and crashed into his car, Phoenix police said.
The collision happened at around 3 p.m. Friday near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road.
According to police, a man was driving a car west on Thomas Road with another man and a teenage boy as his passengers when he ran a red light and struck Campos’ vehicle. Campos was attempting to turn left onto 75th Avenue at that time.
The engine of Campos’ car flew out of the vehicle during the accident and hit a third car traveling west on Thomas Road.
Debris from the collision flew and hit a man who was attempting to cross the street nearby on the northwest corner of the intersection.
First responders pronounced Campos dead at the scene.
The three occupants in the second car, which authorities said was speeding prior to the crash, were hospitalized with unspecified injuries. The pedestrian was also hospitalized with minor injuries.
No one in the third car was hurt.
Police are investigating the collision.
