Clackamas County, OR – Matthew Gene Rinehart, 41, of Eugene, and Darci Ann Olivier, 37, of Wilsonville, were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 551 in Clackamas County Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at around 8:36 a.m. on April 3 on State Route 551 near milepost 1, according to the Oregon State Police.
A preliminary investigation indicated a northbound Kia Forte driven by Rinehart, attempted to make a pass in a “no passing” zone and collided head-on with a southbound Kia Soul operated by Olivier.
Rinehart and Olivier were declared dead at the scene.
A female juvenile, 4, passenger was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
The highway was impacted for approximately four hours during the on-scene investigation.
Unsafe passing is considered the primary cause of the crash.
An investigation is ongoing.
