Mary Wright Killed in Car Accident on Highway 97 and Highway 197 in Wasco County

Wasco County, Oregon (February 23, 2023) – 76-year-old Mary Jane Wright, of Shaniko, was killed in a car crash at an intersection in Wasco County on Tuesday morning.

The fatal crash happened at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 197 at around 9:38 a.m., according to the Oregon State Police.

75-year-old Richard Evar Fridell, of Shaniko, was driving a Lincoln MKZ southbound on Highway 97 when he collided with a northbound GMC Savana that was trying to make a left turn in front of the southbound Lincoln.

Jane Wright was a passenger in the Lincoln and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fridell and the driver of the GMC, 49-year-old Vitaliy Solomko, suffered minor injuries but were not hospitalized.

Additional information about the accident was not provided.
