Maria Soto Dies in Sutter Car Crash on Highway 20

Sutter, California (February 22, 2023) – One of the two people who died in a two-vehicle accident on Monday night in Sutter has been identified as Maria Flores Soto, 25, of Colusa, according to the authorities.

The crash on Highway 20 at Acacia Avenue took place just before 10:30 p.m. February 20.

According to the report, 43-year-old Francisco Jauregui of Yuba City was driving a 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck east on SR 20 when he drifted across the double yellow lines and collided head-on with an oncoming 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Soto.

Soto and her 16-month-old son Andres Ambriz, were both killed in the accident.

A 15-year-old passenger in her vehicle was hospitalized with major injuries.

Jauregui reportedly tried to flee from the scene but was caught by the authorities. He was arrested for multiple charges including gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI causing injury or death, trying to flee the scene of a crash, and child endangerment.

The highway was shut down following the incident.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
