Apple Valley, CA – A man on a motorized shopping cart was hit and killed by a vehicle near an intersection in the Town of Apple Valley Tuesday night, according to the Apple Valley Sheriff's Department.
The deadly crash happened at about 8:40 p.m. on August 19 near the intersection of Dale Evans Parkway and Zuni Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 49-year-old Barstow man was driving a gray Mazda B-series northbound when he struck a 53-year-old man who was also traveling in the northbound lane on a motorized shopping cart. The vehicle struck the man from behind, deputies said.
The rider was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with major injuries and later died.
The name of the victim was not immediately released.
The intersection was shut down for about four hours as investigators processed the scene and collected evidence.
The crash remains under investigation.
