At Least 1 Seriously Injured in San Juan Capistrano Crash on 5 Freeway near Highway 73

San Juan Capistrano, California (February 16, 2023) – At least one person sustained major injuries in a traffic collision involving a DUI driver that happened Wednesday morning in San Juan Capistrano, the California Highway Patrol said.

The incident was reported at about 10:12 a.m. on the northbound 5 Freeway, just south of Highway 73.

Two vehicles were involved in the accident, CHP said.

Firefighters responded to the scene and helped at least one person who sustained serious injuries.

CHP said the wreck involved an intoxicated driver but did not give more details.

An investigation is ongoing.
