Kern County, California (February 17, 2023) – Lucy Martinez, 50, of Bakersfield, was seriously injured in a deadly DUI collision that happened in Kern County on Tuesday morning, according to the authorities.

The incident took place on Highway 65 north of Famoso Road at about 3:50 a.m. February 14.

Authorities said William Pederson, 52, of Porterville, was driving a 2022 Dodge Ram northbound on the highway when he crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota, a 53-year-old Bakersfield woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Martinez was a passenger in the Toyota. She was rushed to Kern Medical with moderate injuries.

Pederson was treated for minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of DUI and other charges.

The CHP is conducting an investigation into the incident.
