Juana Calderon Dies in Bakersfield Crash on Highway 65

Bakersfield, California (February 28, 2023) – Juana Torres de Calderon, 53, of Bakersfield, has been identified by the Kern County coroner as the woman killed in an alleged DUI collision in Bakersfield earlier this month.

The wreck happened on Highway 65 north of Famoso Road at about 3:50 a.m. on February 14.

William Pederson, 52, of Porterville, was reportedly driving a 2022 Dodge Ram northbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, he crossed the double yellow lines and collided head-on with an oncoming Toyota.

Calderon was the driver of the Toyota. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her passenger, Lucy Martinez, 50, of Bakersfield, had moderate injuries and was taken to Kern Medical.

Pederson sustained minor injuries. He was also arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The wreck is under investigation.
