Jenna Causby Killed in Fiery Crash on Highway 1 in Gaviota

Gaviota, California (October 28, 2022) – Jenna Causby, 19, of Lompoc, has been identified as one of the two people who were killed in a fiery wrong-way crash on Friday morning in Gaviota, according to the CHP.

The deadly accident occurred at about 4:05 a.m. on Highway 1, west of Highway 101.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford C-Max, driven by Kyle Nelson, 22, of Goleta, was traveling at around 80 mph on the highway when it crossed over double yellow lines to pass slower traffic.

Unfortunately, Nelson’s Ford C-Max collided with a vehicle operated by Causby. Causby reportedly tried swerving to avoid a collision with the oncoming Ford, but Nelson also swerved, and the vehicles collided and became engulfed in flames.

Sadly, Causby and a passenger in the vehicle were killed in the accident.

Nelson, who was arrested, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.

It was unclear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
