Ian Sanchez Hurt in Murrieta Collision on Interstate 215

Murrieta, California (May 6, 2023) – Ian Sanchez, 6, of Las Vegas, was critically hurt in a multi-vehicle collision with a suspected DUI motorist in Murrieta on Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck took place on Interstate 215 near Linnel Lane at about 3:15 a.m. May 1.
According to the CHP, Isaiah F. Orona, 26, of Menifee, was driving a 2020 Dodge Charger north on I-215 when he made an unsafe turn and slammed into the concrete center divider.
The Dodge drifted back into the roadway and collided with a 2004 Hyundai that was driven by a 55-year-old Menifee man.
The Dodge then moved into the southbound side and it crashed with a 2017 Kia Sportage carrying a Las Vegas family of four.
Ian Sanchez and his father, Moses Sanchez-Rodriguez, 27, of Las Vegas, sustained major injuries. Ian was reportedly declared brain dead at Rady Children’s Hospital.
Also in the Kia was Ian’s mother Joceline Rodriguez. Joceline and her other son, a 4-year-old, were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Orona was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai declined transport to a hospital.
Orona was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the collision.
The incident is under investigation.
