Bakersfield, California (May 15, 2023) – At least one person was severely hurt in a head-on collision that happened Sunday night at an intersection in Bakersfield, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The wreck occurred at around 11:30 p.m. at Virginia Avenue and Bates Avenue.

A brown Chevrolet Suburban and a white Chevrolet Cobalt collided head-on for unknown reasons.

The driver of the Cobalt exited the vehicle after the crash.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found one person unconscious but breathing.

The firefighters transported at least one person to the hospital with severe injuries.

Both vehicles were towed away with major front-end damage.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
